What Does the Voxbone Network Look Like?
Not like other voice networks, that’s for sure. We have 15 years’ experience in assessing the best ways to deliver smooth, reliable and consistent service into a disparate range of countries, spread across four continents and with wildly varying regulatory landscapes.
In that time, we’ve been able to build a global network footprint that’s designed to support your business the right way, regardless of your location. What that means is a fully meshed, redundant, MPLS network built on our own code base and around the principle of two core Points-of-Presence per region, with real-time auto failover mechanisms in place.

We’ve carefully selected the locations of these SuperPoPs to provide the lowest possible latency across each major region where we operate. The result is consistent telecoms on a global scale, withsub-200ms latencyto anywhere on earth. And we’ve paired them in such a way to ensure perpetual resiliency.
Architecting a network as reliable and flexible as ours, and on a global scale no less, is a major multi-year undertaking.

How Has the Voxbone Network Been Architected?
Carefully Located SuperPoPs at the Core
At the heart of our MPLS network, 6 core PoPs, or SuperPoPs, paired up in the US (Los Angeles, New York), Europe (Brussels, Frankfurt) and APAC (Hong Kong, Sydney) to ensure our network has the best possible reach across these markets. We call this our “SuperConnectivity capability”.
All our SuperPoPs are built into Tier 4 data centers to ensure complete fault tolerance, redundancy for every component and 99.995% average uptime. All the data centers where our core network infrastructure reside have ISO27001 security accreditation.
We use Cisco ASA/ASR equipment for robustness of access and routing and Dialogic MGW equipment where transition to TDM is still required.

Satellite CollectPoPs to Go Deeper in Key Markets
In addition to our SuperPoPs, we have deployed local equipment in 13 additional countries across Europe and the APAC region to ensure optimal management of local transit in and out of national PSTNs.
These CollectPoPs can be found in Lisbon, Dublin, Madrid, London, Paris, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Luxembourg, Frankfurt, Milan, Hong Kong Singapore and Tokyo.

Why Do We Do It Like This?
Ultimately, the network design choices we’ve made since 2005 have been about one thing. Supporting any and all call profiles with a uniformly high level of service, regardless of complexity.
As good as our network is, the magic comes in how we use it to transit call traffic. There are three main technical call flows that Voxbone can deploy in order of preference:
With 28 countries and counting, we are the global leader for National Operator status
In these countries, we have national operator status meaning that our network is directly interconnected with the national PSTN. This enables us to transit calls between local calling parties and your own infrastructure in the minimum number of hops. By simplifying the call journey, we can guarantee lower latencies.
Where we are not a national operator, usually due to regulatory limitations governing providers based outside of the country, our next step is to host with a national operator.
Because calls are routed from the local PSTN to the Tier-1 Operator Network then onto the Voxbone Network, we still have full visibility into the call path.
Sometimes in countries where Voxbone is unable to obtain operator status – due to regulatory requirements or because we have not yet rolled out our full service to this location – we will identify and work exclusively with a pre-existing national operator.
